Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion, signifiers and splinching

Snoop is getting identity-splinched.

Remember that together we decide the mapping of signifiers to signifieds; eg the reason I call that leather thing that holds my credit cards, ID, and cash, a wallet is cause we've all agreed to call 'em wallets. And if one day I woke up and started referring to 'wallets' as 'jumper cables'... I'd be called crazy and wallets would still be called 'wallets'.

To transition us to 'jumper cables' I'd have to get some amount of a majority to agree with me.

It gets messier with names and identity; what happens when Snoop Dogg changes his name to Snoop Lion, but the rest of the world still refers to him as Snoop Dogg? The graph above shows that people search for 'Snoop Dogg' more than 3 times as much as they search for 'Snoop Lion'. So what's his name? Who is he?
